Saudi Arabia: WTH?

I still don't understand why men's faces are okay to be seen here in Saudi Arabia, but often times women's faces are blurred out, as you can clearly see in this store window display in a popular mall.  It bugs me.  What kind of message does this send to little girls?  Heck, I'm an adult and it offends and confuses me...

I don't get it either. It predates Islam, no doubt.

Hi William - There is just no logic about it, and it's discriminatory. If they would blur out the men's faces too, it wouldn't bother me so much...

From a religious standpoint both should have been blurred out

it's just to be respectful actually, I'm afraid you see evil everywhere especially where it's not necessary

This minimizes females, makes them invisible. I don't think it's healthy for a young girl's self image at all. We should celebrate ourselves, not diminish ourselves.

Thank you - if that were the case, I wouldn't have a problem with it.
