I've never seen as many fancy evening gowns anywhere as I have seen in Saudi Arabia. Women dress to the 9s here when they attend weddings. It's the whole package - gown, heels, makeup, jewelry, hair, evening bag. etc. All the weddings I've attended here in Jeddah feel like I'm at the Academy Awards. The affairs I've been to also only have been attended by women. Men usually have their own separate wedding function.

I've attended few weddings but worked in a catering place during my college years so I have seen hundreds of weddings. Except for the bride and bridesmaids, I have never seen women at those weddings wearing anything remotely like this. Most women I have see wear something that would normally be worn at church.
Brilliant colours. I especially like the jewel tones on the black dress - not that they'd come in my size, mind. Is it very difficult for you living in SA?
Hi Jerry - I too have never seen women at weddings that I've been to in the states wearing gowns such as these either. But they do dress like this here. I always feel under-dressed.
Not at all what I would have expected.

Gorgeous dresses! (This from someone who hates to dress up :) So strange to think that behind closed doors the women so fashion oriented. Perhaps a result of having to cover up most of the time while in public?
Hi BlossomFlower - I love the black one too. My life is pretty easy here in KSA. Problems arise when I need transportation to get somewhere. It's nice to have friends that have access to drivers especially since I don't. I have a pretty good life here. The cost of living is in many ways much cheaper than the states.
Hi Amy - Women here love to dress up. It's almost a competition. In some ways it seems shallow, but for many women, there is not much else in life for them, so they focus on fashion, makeup, etc.
I also like the colours on the black gown though its too open for my style. I love the chiffon, elegant styels. sf
