Doors in Jeddah

I've always been intrigued and attracted to doors since I can remember. I'm thinking of doing a blog for one year featuring the doors and gates of Jeddah. I don't know if it would get boring after a while or if other people have an affinity for doors the way I do. What do you think?

  1. What is around the doors in your photo is just as interesting.
A year of local doors and gates? That would be a good challenge for you and fun for us to see.

Or, there are several weekly memes for that, which you could join, if you are into memes.

  2. Hi Dina - I thought there might be a meme about doors - maybe that would be better. My husband thought the idea was preposterous!

  3. I love your blog, it is so interesting, even if you just take photos of doors for a year! I found you because I wanted to see what Jeddah looks like after reading the books by Zoe Ferraris, they were so interesting it made me curious. Now I don't want to miss a single picture that you take. Thank you, Sue

  5. Doors would be a great subject. I love doors and windows as subject matter for photos. I do windows on Wednesdays. These doors that you have featured today make an interesting and appealing picture. I have to ponder about how many people have passed through them over the years.

    1. Hi Judy - Thanks. Exactly - it's the mysteries that the doors represent to me that I find so intriguing. I do watercolors and one of my favorite images to paint are doorways.

  6. I love doors also but I couldn't blog about them every day for a year. But if you want to try go ahead.

    1. Hey Yogi - There is such a wide variety of doors everywhere, but you're right - every day for a whole year might be a bit much.

  7. I agree with others photos of doors and gates would make a fascinating topic (perhaps not a year of doors).

  8. I share that door fascination with you. I haven't traveled nearly enough, but took many door photos in Paris and Dublin and find myself eying portals all around home, too. I find if I allow myself to stay too long on a single obsession that I start losing enthusiasm. Just a thought: you might want to consider devoting one or two days a week to doors just to stay fresh. Or take it a month at a time.

    1. Hi Kay - Thanks for the ideas. I think I've always had this fascination with doors since I can remember. My first trip to Ireland, I felt like I was in "Door Heaven!"

  9. My sister has a keen fascination with doors. We have traveled Europe together 3x and she is always all about the doors :) In fact I am willing to bet 80% of her pictures are of doors!

  10. Maybe a weekly post of the many interesting doors you see during the week?

  11. great blog idea, but how about taking pics of proper doors/gates? Did you think of going around khalidiya, taking photographs of gates enclosing huge castles?. you're representing our city in a negative way by posting pictures of such doors (the ones you already posted)

    1. Look, if you live in Jeddah, you KNOW how difficult it is for a woman to get around if she doesn't have a driver. I have to take pictures of what I can get. I would love to take photos of nicer areas and I have asked my husband to take me to nicer neighborhoods so I can take pictures of the pretty doors and gates. But he won't. He thinks that I will get into trouble if I am caught taking photos of rich people's castles. If we happen to be in a nicer area, I try to take the best pics I can, but when you are zooming by in a car, it's hard to capture suitable images for posting. I am posting things that I see and I see doors like the ones in this post EVERY TIME we are out. So exactly HOW is that representing Jeddah in a NEGATIVE way??? Have you never seen doors such as these in Jeddah? I happen to see artistic beauty in these doors. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Certainly there are more beautiful doors out there, but these are the ones I was able to get a decent enough shot of to publish. If you have photos of beautiful doors of Jeddah, send them to me.
