There are a series of whimsical sculptures in the center island of a lovely boulevard in Jeddah. The Magic Lamp, the Teapots, the Apple and Large Yellow Whistle are the ones that can be seen in this photo, but there are many more on this same stretch of road.
Lanterns, whistles, lamps and teapots—you weren't kidding about large ordinary objects as sculptures. I find that absolutely fascinating.
ReplyDeleteHi Hilda - It is rather unexpected to find such whimsical sculptures here in a place like Saudi Arabia, where I often feel that fun is forbidden or, at the least, frowned upon.
Deletefanciful display. are they only temporary installations?
ReplyDeleteWhatever they are made of, they don't look like they will withstand the elements here in Jeddah for too many years. And painted ones like these need to be repainted quite frequently too. The sculptures here that do last are the ones made of materials like marble, steel, and bronze.
Deletevisited Jeddah for a couple of month... amazing sculpture, parks and amenities around but in the day you can't see many people especially children only during the night that people , family can go out because of the hot temperature....
