Because all businesses must close for the five daily prayer times every day, many shops are closed all afternoon from about 12 pm until 5 pm. I still haven't gotten used to the strange business hours here and haven't acquired an appreciation for it. It makes trying to accomplish things during the day extremely inconvenient.
Given that women cannot drive and men who work, probably work during the day, it makes some sense.
