Saudi Arabia: Spelling Blooper

I am constantly attracted by the written word, and I get a kick out of seeing spelling and grammar bloopers on signs, menus, and other items.  This sign says "Please keep your pelongings under your observation."

  1. Oh, that's not good!

I saw a spelling mistake on an ad today for a shop here. My internal editor debated going down to the shop in question- which sells women's bathing suits- and asking who did their ad campaign.

  2. Hi Susie
I think it is not nice to see such mistakes in any language. Especially in big signs or menues as you mentioned.
But to see mistakes in english for a place where english is not the first language is kind of tolerable.
The disaster is when you see such mistakes in Arabic language both in spelling and in grammer.
And believe it or not it happens a lot here.
    Thank you..

    1. Hi Ayman - Thanks for your comment. I realize that these mistakes I see here are made by people whose native tongue isn't English. It's understandable. I do get upset when I see English spelling and grammatical errors on TV or in the papers when I am in the states because they should know better.
