Jeddah: Abandoned Cars

The problem of abandoned cars continues to plague Jeddah.  As if the rubble and trash everywhere wasn't enough of a blight on this city that has so much potential, abandoned cars covered in dust detract greatly from Jeddah's aesthetic appeal.  Disabled and wrecked vehicles can be seen all over the city, and no one seems to care or do anything about it.  They take up valuable parking places in a city that has far too few to begin with, and they are a public health hazard and a glaring eyesore.

  1. I've never understood the way the Saudis deal with their public spaces, do they like living in what can look like a dump?

    1. I don't get it either, Jerry. It's depressing seeing things like this every time I go out. And this photo isn't as bad as many other areas...

  2. One wonders what the issue is- why on earth one would just ditch their own car.

    1. Sometimes owners just abandon the cars where they are if they break down and are disabled. When it rains here, there is severe flooding which usually damages hundreds of cars, so many of these abandoned cars cannot be fixed. But the government needs to take action and remove them from the streets of Jeddah. It makes Jeddah look like a junk yard.

  3. If you haven't already... but if you ever get a chance, take a trip to the junk yard. Its something one does not forget at its size and amount of cars there.
It's a great source for car parts though.
