A sight that always intrigues me here is people praying in public. Large groups of men will gather in certain areas on the streets and sidewalks to pray, often using prayer rugs that are just provided for anyone who needs to pray. Many malls have separate prayer rooms for both men and women. In this particular mall, I know that there is a prayer room for women, but I often see women praying in the bathrooms or in the common areas of the mall.

I don't think I would every get on a bathroom floor to pray.
ReplyDeleteHi Jerry - Let me explain. The bathrooms in this particular are huge and have separate areas - for the toilets, a huge area for sinks and mirrors, another area for private dressing rooms (since many stores do not have changing rooms), and a long wide hall as you enter or leave. The area where the women pray is far away from the toilets and sinks.
DeleteI've seen a woman do this on the floor in a campus library, but that's about it.
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned, Susie, that many stores don't have changing rooms. Are you saying that potential customers may take non-purchased merchandise out of a store and go into the bathroom with it in order to try it on??
ReplyDeleteA few shops might allow a customer to take an unpaid for item to be tried on, however most shops require the customer to purchase the item first. One time a shop allowed me to take three dresses home without paying for them so I could try them on. I returned them a couple of days later, paying at that time then for the one I kept.
DeletePhoto of women praying in front of store is very poignant and a bit sad
ReplyDeleteThis bathroom thing is not digestible. Please amend it !
ReplyDeleteI explained in a previous comment about the details. I stand behind what I have said, whether it's digestible or not.
ReplyDeleteArsii, a person seeing from a different perspective and a culture outside the Arabic community will cause confusion about praying "in a bathroom". However, Susie clarified things and described the reality of how the building is laid out in order to help readers understand that it's not "praying in a bathroom", but rather praying in a corridor near a commonly used area by females (in order to make it convenient for them). Clearly, women can and do pray anywhere in the building!
ReplyDeleteHi SUsie! Have u tried joining them ? Haha
