Quick question (and I'm sorry if you have already answered it) Wy havent you learned any arabic so far? I would assume it would be quite useful when living in an Arab country? Perhaps you might feel it is not necessary due to the fact that english is common? Or is it that you find it overwhelming since it has a different script? I don't mean to judge or aything like that, I'm ust curious.
Hi Rusty - Well, it's not for a lack of trying on my part. I have taken Arabic classes for a few years on and off, but if you consider that I moved to Saudi Arabia in my mid 50s and now I am 65, my aptitude for learning a new difficult language at this point in my life is definitely waning. I wouldn't say I can carry on a conversation in Arabic, but I can give directions to a taxi driver. It took me about 3 weeks just to learn what one says after a sneeze!
I see, I love the arabic language and would kill to be able to visit Saudi Arabia at least once, I've invested years in learning Arabic and understand it is not easy, in fact, most of the people that started studying with me have already dropped out. It doesnt help that I cannot migrate to arabic countries.
I imagine it would be a very difficult language to learn.
