Good question, Al - a large segment of the population here are foreign workers. English is the 2nd language here, universally understood by most, so it is used in signage along with Arabic. Also, the only "tourism" here is religious tourism - millions come here every year to perform Hajj or Omra. But non-Muslims cannot really come here as tourists.
The style would not be out of place here.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious why so many of the signs have an English translation - is English a commonly-spoken language, or are they aimed at tourists?

ReplyDeleteThanks for the answer - I read about the Hajj every year but thought there would be further tourism.
