I've made some wonderful friends since moving to Saudi Arabia 11 years ago. The hard part is that many of them are just here in the country working for a limited period of time. When their contracts are up, they leave the country, off to another adventure. And then there are those friends who are married to Saudis like me, and many have been living here a lot longer than I have. One thing is certain, it would be very difficult to survive here without friends, due to the feelings of isolation and the restrictions and cultural differences.
This photo was taken on my birthday a couple of weeks ago at a restaurant in the Assila Hotel during their Oktoberfest Celebration. Since alcohol is strictly illegal in Saudi Arabia, what we are holding up in our beer steins is non-alcoholic beer. It was a fun evening with friends! Cheers!

What a wonderful photo for the theme; tops that I have seen so far because it underscores the necessity of friendships and respect for cultural differences while having a great time! I hope that you have a fantastic November, 2018, while enjoying your friends.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite an unusual place for an Oktoberfest!
ReplyDeleteThanks, William and Kate!
ReplyDeleteLOL - that just struck me as funny while I was writing it - you know, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge?
Friends are most important, and they do sometimes come and go.
