At all functions and events I have attended here in Saudi Arabia, there are always beautifully tailored, traditionally dressed men offering Arabic coffee to guests. The Arabic coffee is called gahwa and the man serving it is called "gahwa jee." This was at an art event I attended a few years ago.

He looks like he could have just been serving coffee to Lawrence of Arabia himself.
ReplyDeleteHi William - Yes! These guys are at pretty much every event I have been to - and they always look smashing!
ReplyDeleteHow elegant to have coffee served this way!
ReplyDeleteYour support for 'My Corner of the World' is much appreciated! Thanks for your link this week.
Gahwa also called Qahwa. So do you like it?
ReplyDeleteHere in India we have Qahwa made of green tea in place of green coffee as in Gahwa. Cardamons are an important ingredient in both. Kesar or saffron is another very important ingredient in Qahwa here. Both are high in anti oxidants and served with dry fruits.
We drink a lot of qahwa during winters.
Nice informative post Susie!
Hi Betty - Thanks for stopping by! I always get excited to see how these guys are dressed. They always look so elegant.
ReplyDeleteHi Monika - I have actually acquired a taste for gahwa now after many of years of trying it. I think the key for me is the amount of cardomom in it. My favorite is made by my sister-in-law. I find her version of gahwa more to my liking.
