PRIVACY EXTENSIONS ARE NOTICEABLE ALL OVER JEDDAH.
HUGE SCREENS ARE ATTACHED ATOP ALREADY TALL WALLS FOR ADDITIONAL PRIVACY. THE REASON FOR THIS IS TO AFFORD THE WOMEN OF THE RESIDENCE THE LUXURY OF BEING OUTSIDE WITHOUT THEIR HAIR AND BODIES BEING PROPERLY COVERED ACCORDING TO THIS CULTURE. THE UNSIGHTLY SCREENS ARE SUPPOSED TO SHIELD ANY PRYING EYES FROM NEIGHBORING BUILDINGS FROM GAZING UPON WOMEN WHO ARE NOT RELATED TO THEM.

ReplyDeleteSusie - you are right that the screens are not particularly attractive. But I am pleased that some people can afford to give the women an option to be outside without the normally required clothing.
