SkyWatch - Getting Closer

For these three shots in today's post, I zoomed in a little for each shot.  I like the purple neon contrast against the orange, pink and yellow sky.

There was a total of about 20 seconds time span between the first and last photos.  Hope you all are faring well with Life as We Now Know It!

Jeddah comes alive at night with otherwise drab buildings outlined in brightly colored neon.   This is the last of this month's series called "Out of Focus."  I hope you have enjoyed it!

I love the neon lights of Jeddah.  It makes the city come alive at night and hides the dust and drabness of many buildings.  This is the another of my "Out of Focus" series this month.  Hope you are enjoying it.

JDP Theme Day: Out of Focus

At night Saudi Arabia becomes alive with neon.  It's always hard to capture good shots from moving vehicles at night because the lights always smear.  I have a hard time getting rid of those out of focus shots though because I find many of them beautiful and artistic.  This photo features the neon lights of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's capital city.

Today is the first of the month, which means it's theme day for City Daily Photo bloggers.  City Daily Photo is an online community of photo bloggers from around the world, sharing the wonders of their area of the world pictorially with others.  Each month there is a different theme.  This month's theme is "Out of Focus."  I had such a difficult time choosing just one photo for today's theme that I've decided to feature several more out of focus shots over the next few days.

Many of Jeddah's buildings are outlined in a variety of colored neon lights.  It brings the city to life at night, don't you think?

At night Jeddah comes to life with many buildings entirely lit up in neon. 

Attention Getting Storefront

Blue Danube ... (sign in Arabic)

Danube is a large supermarket chain with many locations in Saudi Arabia.  It is well known for carrying a great selection of imported items that are hard to find in other stores.  This branch is a free-standing building on Medina Road. 

Store Front at Night

Jeddah during the daytime is quite dusty looking, but at night the city comes alive with colored lights everywhere - and it becomes a whole different place.

Businesses at Night

I showed you a similar shot of lit up colorful business signs last month. This one is taken from an angle and shows a lot more of the colorful signs. I love shots like this.

SkyWatch: Domed Mall

When the sun is setting, I like to go up on the rooftop of our building and enjoy the breeze, the lights beginning to turn on about the city, and the sunset, of course. With so much wind and dust the past few months, there haven't been many spectacular sunsets at all. This dome-shaped building is actually a large shopping mall in Jeddah styled after the Capitol Building in Washington DC.

Our World: Birthday Cake Buildings

At night, many of the buildings here in Jeddah remind me of birthday cakes because the tops of the buildings are ablaze with lights.

Since addresses aren't commonly used in Saudi Arabia, landmarks, businesses, or schools are used to give directions, so buildings lit up in different colors are a good way of identifying them. Don't you agree with me that the buildings resemble birthday cakes?

Colorful Nights

The city of Jeddah, like many cities, comes alive at night with all the neon lights which outline buildings and announce the locations of many thriving businesses.

What a change from the dusty and often drab surroundings I see during the daylight hours.

The signage everywhere makes me wish I could read Arabic!
