Fish Mosaic at KAU

This colorful and whimsical outdoor mosaic is one of dozens which hangs on the walls surrounding King Abdulaziz University (KAU).  Many of the mosaics, which were created by female students several years ago, reflect a Red Sea theme.  Some of the mosaics have not fared too well in the severe heat and dust of Jeddah.  This one is definitely one of my favorites.

I really enjoy seeing the mosaics pictures. This one is different because the background isn't make of tile.

Hi Jerry - I'm glad you are enjoying the mosaics! This mosaic used little pebbles as well as very small pieces of tile. While the background looks like it may have been painted, it is actually a marbled tile, but cut into large pieces like a puzzle. If you click on the image, it will give you an enlarged view.

Thank you, Misty!

With the tools I used (many years ago in a galaxy far away) I could not have cut tiles like that. Oh well better tools better techniques. Again I really enjoy this series. I love good student art work.

Jerry - Some of the bigger areas are cut in more than one piece.
