SAUDI ARABIA ROCK ART PETROGLYPHS

Bir Hima in the Najran Province of Saudi Arabia is rich with ancient sandstone rock carvings made centuries ago.  The petroglyphs widely vary in content and inscriptions, and when they were first explored in 1951, many crude carving tools were discovered as well.

Over 100 sites with rock drawings have been documented in the Najran area, featuring upwards of 6400 human and animal figures, consisting of camels, humans, giraffes, birds and other creatures.  Needless to say, Bir Hima is one of the world's richest and important archaelogical sites.

SCENES FROM KAEC

King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) is a planned multibillion dollar city complex intended to promote economic growth, industrial endeavors, and investment opportunities. Conceived by King Abdullah in 2005, one of the purposes of KAEC was to relieve urban congestion in the country's large overcrowded cities.

Located on the Red Sea coastline about 100 km north of Jeddah, future plans for KAEC include hopes of providing one million jobs.  Its seaport was ranked second in the world of fastest growing seaports, with capabilities of handling the world's largest ships.

You can read more about the plans for KAEC by CLICKING HERE.

SAUDI SEATING AND DECOR

Traditional Saudi style utilizes a variety of patterns and colors, which I find quite charming.  Somehow it all works together to create a delightful, whimsical effect.

The use of geometric shapes in traditional decorating ideas is a telltale feature of Saudi design.

These photos are from Najran and Abha, in southern Saudi Arabia.  A big THANK YOU to my friend, tour guide Mohammed at Najran Tours, for allowing me to showcase these photos for today's post.  Visit his Instagram page  @NajranTours.

JEDDAH RANDOM PHOTOS

Business signs here are often written in both Arabic and English - so it's actually unusual to see 3 signs next to one another without English on them.

Watermelon season in Jeddah - lots for sale out of trucks and cars on the side of the road.

Pale pink doors - one for tall people, and one for short people.  LOL!

ART IN ABHA, Saudi Arabia

"T" is for TRIBES - The first king of Saudi Arabia, Ibn Saud, gained control of the various Tribes of the region, uniting them to form the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This mural of him is located in Abha, in the southern part of the country.

"2" distinct types of wall art - Murals and traditional Qatt wall decor in Abha, Saudi Arabia

TALENT - One of my favorite loves is art in almost all forms.  With art being such a huge presence here in the kingdom, I am a happy camper.  Below is a modern art mural of Arabic calligraphy lettering.

Thanks to my friend Piotr Chodakowski for allowing the use of the photos in today's post.  You can follow Piotr on Instagram - @piotr_ksa
