Pedestrian Crossing at the Fresh Produce Market

This is a scene at the huge open air fruit and vegetable market in Jeddah.  Cars are not allowed inside the numerous wide aisles which are filled with vendors, shoppers, and flatbeds.  I find this place amazing, although I prefer going during the cooler winter months.

Today is the first of the month, which means it's theme day for City Daily Photo bloggers.  City Daily Photo is an online community of photo bloggers from around the world, sharing the wonders of their area of the world pictorially with others.  Each month there are different themes that CDP members can participate in.  This month's theme is "Pedestrian Crossing"

Please visit the City Daily Photo portal to view other participants' entries for today's theme day of "Pedestrian Crossing."

Ooo! All that colourful produce looks delish Susie. I agree markets are always more enjoyable in cooler weather.

I'm one of the Pasadena bloggers and clicked through from Petrea's site. Thanks for this lovely slice of life from your corner of the world!

There is just something about an open air market that makes the food taste that much better.

It's odd to see a man dressed in black. It almost looks like a priest's cassock.

Hi Jerry - During the cooler months here, men are more likely to wear darker colors and even wool thobes.

Hi Red Nomad Oz - The produce tends to get more pungent in the warmer months too ...

Hi Tanya - It's really fun to go there. My husband loves to bargain with the vendors. It's unbelievably cheap compared to the prices in the states.

Hi Dina - I love seeing the huge bunches of herbs stacked so neatly. It's pretty!

This is fascinating to me as I can't imagine where they would grow vegetables. I think Saudi Arabia and all I can think is "desert."

I wish our outdoor markets were this organised! This is an exquisite interpretation of the theme, kudos!
