Our World: Ladies Section of Bank

Gender segregation is taken to an extreme here in Saudi Arabia.  The other day I showed you the Family Entrance at a Red Lobster Restaurant.  Today's post features a local Jeddah investment bank that has an entirely separate Ladies Section.

I found your daily photos a short while back - so glad I did as I really like learning about your part of the world. It is the little things that help me understand life there - I live near Seattle and we travel some but haven't been to your area. Thanks!

It might well take hundreds of years for that to change.

I hate to think of the amount of money wasted in the foolish effort to stop single men and single women from seeing each other.

Hi SillyGirl - Thanks for your comment. Last summer I bought a place in Olalla (near Gig Harbor). I have spent my summers in the Seattle area since moving to Saudi Arabia in 2007.

Hi William - I have seen some changes in the 8 years since I moved here, although it seems to be at a snail's pace. Nonetheless, I am hopeful for more change, especially where women are concerned.

Hi Jerry - If it weren't so inconsistent, it would be easier to understand. Like why was it okay (until the laws changed a few years ago) for females to be forced to purchase their underwear, cosmetics, and abayas only from men, yet banking has to be separate? It's the inconsistencies across the board that really drive me crazy here!
