Geometric Ceiling


Geometric shapes are very typical design patterns here in Saudi Arabia.  This is the ceiling of a theater of Effat University, a female institution for higher learning in Jeddah.  I love how the cut outs and the lights make a pattern on the walls below it.

Very nice image and unlike a lot of design in Saudi Arabia its authentically Islamic or Arab in design not a pastiche of the worst from Europe. (Just thin of that awful clock tower in Mecca.)

Hi William - Variations on this star pattern is very familiar in Middle Eastern art. It's quite attractive.

Hi Jerry - I have to agree. I like these traditional patterns much better than some of the modern stuff I have seen that has become so popular.
