Our World - Life on Jeddah's Waterfront

The Jeddah Waterfront has become one of the most popular places for the city's residents to spend their leisure time.  And with schools in Saudi Arabia out last week, people flocked to Jeddah from cities all over the country because of the Red Sea and the beautiful weather.

Jeddah Public Prayer

Muslims are required to pray five times a day at designated times.  So wherever one happens to be when a prayer time comes along, that's where you pray - on the street, at work, on the beach, or in a mall.  I've seen large groups of men gathered together for prayer all over Jeddah.  Many places provide public prayer rugs for them to use.  This large group of men probably consists of mall workers and shoppers.

Below is an example of prayer rugs provided in the middle of a grassy park in Jeddah.

Jeddah Vase Sculpture

This larger-than-life sculpture of a vase sits in the center of a smaller roundabout of Jeddah. One of this city's coolest features is the amazing public art sculptures that are all over the city.

Red Sea - Fifty Shades of Blue

The Red Sea varies in color from a deep navy blue to a bright blue-green turquoise.  We spent the last day of 2018 out on a boat snorkeling.  It was perfect weather and the temperature of the water was ideal.

Jeddah Striking Window Shop Display

This is one of the most attractive and striking shop window displays I have ever seen.   Purses, jewelry, and hats are the stars of this sparkly eye catching display in the Mall of Arabia.

Today's post's theme is my best or favorite photo from the past year.  While this isn't my best photo, it is my favorite because it exemplifies my feelings for my adopted country of Saudi Arabia. I have to admit, my first couple of years here took some adjusting and at times I wondered what I had gotten myself into.  But this place and its people have grown on me, and I have to come to love living here very much.  I only wish the rest of the world could know what a wondrous and amazing place this is.  I'm not saying it's perfect by any means, but there are so many good things about life in Saudi Arabia that most people have no idea about.  And I hope that through my blogging, others may come to know the Saudi Arabia that I know and love.
