Venturing Out Sans Abaya

I see more and more women venturing out in public without abayas lately.  As long as a woman is modestly dressed - long sleeves, high neckline, long skirt or pants - an abaya is actually not required any more.

That must make some of the women happy.

Imagine that twenty years ago.

Hi William - Actually before 1979, women wore regular street clothes out in public. In 1979 the Grand Mosque was attacked and the religious faction took on a much stronger role for the next 4 decades.

Hi Bill - Yes, some are happy about it, others not so much. My husband is not...

Wow, that's a big change.
Now you have me wondering what your husband's thinking is about this, Susie.

And many people ARE happy about it. At least no one will be enforcing an unwritten law that women must wear abayas. Women who wish to continue wearing the abaya won't be forced not wear it. Islam only requires that women are properly covered so as long as they are, what is the problem?
For now, I will continue to wear it because that is my husband's wish. I have actually grown to not mind it as much as I first did years ago.
