FOOD TRUCKS IN JEDDAH

These food trucks were spotted in northeast Jeddah along Prince Mutaib bin Abdulaziz Road during Ramadan.  There were quite a few spread out along several blocks.  I'm sure they are quite busy at night once the daily fast has ended.

TRADITIONAL SAUDI BREAKFAST

A traditional Saudi breakfast is to be shared and savored. It consists of many small servings of a variety of food items such as breads, jams, eggs, olives, cheeses, veggie, fruits, dips, drinks, and sweets. This particular breakfast was shared between a friend and myself and there was plenty left over.

Jeddah Covid-19 Business Restrictions

A new wave of Covid-19 restrictions has been implemented for businesses here in Saudi Arabia.  Restaurants may only provide take out food to customers now, so it was interesting to see how the normal seating areas of these mall restaurants have dealt with the new rules.  The above photos shows how the tables have been rearranged to block off entry and all the chairs have been removed.

This restaurant has removed all tables and chairs altogether and has blocked entry into the normal seating area.

This restaurant too has removed all normal seating and takes orders at the entrance.  I saw photos taken at another mall recently with all seating gone at the food court.  I was shocked, however, to see that customers actually got their food and sat on the floor there to eat it, totally defeating the whole purpose of these new health regulations.

Jeddah Scenes from a Mall

Family entertainment areas in malls are commonplace in Saudi Arabia.  Due to the severe heat, outdoor activities are limited here during much of the year, so big air conditioned malls offer indoor amusement parks where kids can have fun while moms shop.

There are unlimited fancy dress shops in malls too - plenty of fashions fit for a queen.  Malls also have food court areas as well as higher end restaurants too.

Divine Pistacchio Cake and Other Treats

A favorite restaurant of mine in Jeddah is Maison de Zaid.  It offers delectable specialty desserts in addition to a full menu with a Middle Eastern flair for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  One of their specialties is pistacchio cake which tastes as divine as it looks.

They offer many other fine and fun treats, like fruity tarts and an unusual caramel cake topped with caramel popcorn.

I haven't been to a restaurant in such a long time now. I am dreaming of all the great restaurants here in Jeddah and longing for the day when I can revisit them.
