Jeddah's Stained Glass Globe

It's really hard to gauge the overwhelming size of many of Jeddah's sculptures because of being located in areas that not many people walk in.  Many are in the middle of busy traffic circles or on congested roads where it's difficult to stop and get out to take photos.

The Stained Glass Globe sculpture is another design of Julio Lafuente, a Spanish sculptor who made more than 30 amazing pieces of art for the city of Jeddah's Beautification Project.  Many thanks to my friend Vicki Reynolds for the use of these photos.

Our World: Hilarious Menu Selections

Lost in Translation - This menu at a mall restaurant in Jeddah just had too many weird translations on it that I couldn't understand what most of the items were.  Like, what is a "Chicken Knot"? Or "Node Thickness"? Or what kind of dish is a "Vegetable Problem"? How about "Precarious Chicken"? And what is a "Complaisant" dish?

And all these "Blindfolded" dishes? Does one need to be blindfolded in order to eat them, or what? I think Google translate was used for this menu ... I'd be mad if I paid someone to translate it into English and the result was this!

Yemeni Food

Middle Eastern countries have many similar dishes but with their own twist on them.  Unleavened bread similar to tortillas is commonly served in many ME countries.  Usually torn into bite size pieces and then dipped into tasty dishes, these flat breads are fabulous even on their own.

Photographing the Photographer

This photo of me was taken at an art exhibit in Jeddah last year. I had been approached by a university student who was doing a project about Western women married to Saudis. I was one of several other women who agreed to participate.  She came over to my house and interviewed me and took photos, which she then compiled into a book.  The photo hanging on the wall is actually of me holding my passport, and the book I'm holding shows a photo of me taking photos in Jeddah.
