Saudi Arabia: Outside Prayer Area

The presence of Islam is felt everywhere in this country.  People of other religions are not allowed to openly practice their religions.  To say that there are mosques on every street corner might be exaggerating slightly, but not much.  Even out in the middle of nowhere, there are places provided for Muslims to worship.  This little place for prayer has no walls or roof and a dirt floor.  It is completely out in the open and in the middle of nowhere.  There are many similar structures in underdeveloped areas of Saudi Arabia.

It looks quite simple but to the point. What captures my interest is the way the terrain stretches out like that to the horizon.

Interesting! But I don't understand the need for such enclosures. Just to shield from the wind?

Hi Dina - The wall is so low that I don't think it would offer any protection from wind. Maybe it's just to have a designated holy-type area for Muslims to pray, although I have seen people praying just about anywhere and everywhere - in streets, in malls, on the beaches, in halls, in corners, etc. There was a children's playground not far from this, behind me, so it was probably made for the parents of kids there playing.
