Mawakeb Alajer - Jeddah's Thrift Store

Located in an unassuming villa in a residential neighborhood of Jeddah, Mawakeb Alajer offers some of the best deals in town for gently used, previously owned items.  In operation since 2000, this well organized charity shop offers something for everyone - men's, women's, and children's clothing, books, toys, home furnishings and furniture, fine china, electronics, linens, and much much more.  Some of the women's high end designer fashions even still have the original tags on them. 

One never knows what one will find in this mind blowing place.  I never saw super pointy shoes covered in a patchwork of fur like these!  One whole room is dedicated to wedding dresses, and several more contain other women's clothing and accessories.   

With constantly changing inventory, if you are looking for something in particular, it can be challenging.  If you don't grab what you see during one trip, chances are it will not be there the next time you go. 

Some items may come in a variety of designs and color choices, but other items are indeed more surprising, rare, or one-of-a-kind, like the red plaid bagpipes below or the mounted taxidermy trophy head next to it - certainly not what one might expect to find here in Saudi Arabia!
