Jeddah: More Abandoned Cars

One of my pet peeves of Jeddah is the lack of concern of all members of the community in making the city a better place for all.  And one of the biggest problems is the garbage, junk and piles of rubble everywhere that no one seems to take responsibility for.

There are hundreds - no thousands - of disabled, wrecked, and abandoned vehicles all over the streets of Jeddah.  These cars are not only an eyesore, but they often take up valuable parking spaces in a city with far too few parking spaces to start with.  

Jeddah: A Problem all over the City

Empty lots within the city of Jeddah have become dumping grounds for trash and rubble.  It is a huge unsightly problem as well as a public health hazard.  Another related problem are the broken vehicles abandoned all over the city. 

Old Jeddah: Sad Truth

One of the things that I find most discouraging about living in Jeddah is the garbage everywhere.  There is not much awareness about littering.  Most Saudis seem to have the attitude that someone else will come along and clean up after them, and most expats seem to have the attitude that Saudi Arabia is not their homeland, so they don't care about throwing their trash on the ground.  Plastic bags are a huge problem and recycling is not common here. 

Our World: And Right Next Door...

Vacant lots in Jeddah can be a real eyesore. They become a dumping ground for garbage, construction rubble, and God knows what else. Any vacant lot in Jeddah seems to be fair game. I personally would hate living next door to something like this. How depressing.
