Middle East Lanterns

On one of our recent rare outings to buy groceries and to purchase hair clippers so I can start cutting my husband's hair, I saw these beautiful lanterns at SACO.  I'm a big sucker for lanterns like this - but I didn't get one.

I love this wall of assorted lamps in a restaurant on the ground floor of the Red Sea Mall in Jeddah.  Sorry I don't know the name of the place - but I do love the lamps!

I would fill my home with lamps like these if I could.  I saw this one at the Afghani Souk in Jeddah. I love the images it makes on the wall too.

Our World: Villa Entrance

Middle Eastern style is evident in this private villa entrance in Jeddah.  I love the large cut out shape housing the gate, the step details on top of the wall, and the abundance and variety of lanterns.

Elegant Window and Lamp

Yesterday my post featured the Arabic Andalus star design, the elegant 8 pointed star used as a design element in many Arabic designs.  Today's post continues that star theme with a lovely geometrical star design covering a long narrow window.  I love the free standing lamp complimenting this beautifully shaped window.

Yesterday's post also featured a lovely table in the shape of the Andalus star.  Above is another gorgeous star shaped table featured in Saudi Design Week in Riyadh.  This glass topped table is the creation of Saudi designer Dina Abdulatief of Sense of Space.   It was also showcased at Saudi Design Week which took place this past week in Riyadh

Baeshen House Lamp and Window

Baeshen House in Al Balad, Jeddah's oldest part of the city, is an architectural treasure that will hopefully be preserved and maintained for generations to come.  This beautiful Moroccan style ceiling lamp hangs in the entryway of Baeshen House.  It is lovely paired with the colorful stained glass window near it.  

Much of the old section of Jeddah is crumbling and in such a state of disrepair.  The danger of fire is also a constant threat due to substandard and unsafe electrical wiring in this old part of the city.  Preservation efforts are at work, but every time I have visited Al Balad, it seems more buildings have been lost. 

Old Jeddah: Lamps

These were some interesting Moroccan style lamps I fell in love with at the Turkish-Afghani souk in Old Jeddah.  I just love the details and the exotic feel to them.   CLICK HERE FOR A MAP to this souk where you can find baskets, carpets, furniture, clothing, handicrafts, jewelry, and many other traditional handicrafts.
