Slice of Life in Al Balad

Here is another favorite photo which shows a slice of life in the old part of the city of Jeddah called Al Balad.  It captures the vibe there.

Jeddah's Colorful Al Balad

I love this photo I took from under the shade of a street vendor's umbrella, showing life in Al Balad.

Al Balad Beauty in Old Things

There is beauty in old things, and Al Balad - the oldest section of Jeddah - is abundant in beauty around every corner.

SkyWatch - Jeddah's Al Balad

The beauty of the architecture of Al Balad in Jeddah plus palm trees and a blue sky with wispy clouds are the ingredients for a lovely photo...

OK ... But Where Are the Heads?

Yes, headless mannequins in shop windows are a common thing here in Saudi Arabia.  I have to wonder if one can order headless mannequins, or if they have to order the complete mannequin with the head.  And if so, what do they do with the heads then?

Some of these mannequins actually have a silver cap at the neck - but not all of them do...

Our World: Leisure Life on the Red Sea

Usually by April in Jeddah, the sweltering oppressive heat has already taken hold, but this year the weather has been surprisingly pleasant.  I'm happy any time I am outside and not sweating!

It's nice seeing so many Jeddawis enjoying the pleasant weather too.  Personally I especially like seeing the young girls letting their hair blow in the breeze and doing things like bike riding or rollerblading that I used to pretty much only see boys doing here in public. Times have changed here in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia - Yellow Souvenir

I have to admit, souvenir shopping in Saudi Arabia has gotten easier in the 11 years since I moved here.  It used to be practically impossible to find anything with Saudi Arabia written on it, or specific city souvenirs.  So it seems that true tourism commericialization has arrived in this country.
